Infographic of patents, climate, and parks of 10 US cities.
Tasked to create a poster for a fictitious event, the graphic pulled inspiration from rising sea levels as a consequence of climate change processes that are driving the need for designers of the built environment to examine ways cities can respond to the shifting boundaries between land and sea.
Drawing inspiration from the off-axis shift of the makerspace volume, the graphic utilizes a shifted interlock to join MAKE and SHIFT, referencing driving themes within the building:
- Shifting of the makerspace towards views to express the active nature of the program while responding to its regional context by moving towards the San Francisco skyline.
- A shifting understanding of the workplace as a place of fabrication and experimentation, comprised of office spaces that serve varied levels of social space as well as workshop areas that enable expanded communication through the generation of visual and spatial prototyping.
- An adaptive building program that responds to a shifting sea level over time with three levels of a stepped podium.
